CNMV

What are they?

The CNMV, short for Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores, is the body responsible for supervising and overseeing financial markets in Spain. Its main role is to ensure transparency, proper functioning, and investor protection in the securities markets. This includes regulating activities like real estate crowdfunding, the issuance of securities, and other types of investments.

Created in 1988, the CNMV is a public institution attached to the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Enterprise. Its mission is to safeguard the integrity of the financial market and build investor confidence through regulation and supervision of the entities operating within it.

Key aspects to consider

Its main functions include:

  • Market and product supervision: Making sure all operations in financial markets comply with current regulations.
  • Entity registration: Authorizing and registering financial service firms, such as fund managers and crowdfunding platforms.
  • Investor protection: Ensuring that investors have clear, sufficient, and accurate information to make informed decisions.
  • Investigation and enforcement: Taking action against fraud or breaches of financial regulations.

In the context of real estate crowdfunding and other modern forms of investment, the CNMV plays a key role in creating a regulatory framework that protects both investors and project developers. It also promotes financial education by publishing reports and guides to help people better understand the risks and benefits of investing in the securities markets.

The CNMV is a central reference in Spain’s financial system, fostering transparency and stability in the capital markets.
