Fortunately, today the process is so simple that it even allows us to automate investments. As we&#8217;ll see, <strong>putting investments on autopilot has more advantages than just simplicity<\/strong>. But what exactly is investment automation?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Investment automation involves using algorithms and software to execute investment decisions automatically. It sounds complex, but it can be as straightforward as scheduling a periodic transfer to an investment fund. This approach <strong>eliminates the need for constant intervention<\/strong>\u2014with the risks that entails\u2014allowing investments to be managed efficiently and adjusted automatically to market conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Investment automation strategies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We have previously discussed some of these techniques in the blog. Essentially, there are three major automation strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Dollar-cost averaging (DCA)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This strategy involves investing a fixed amount of money at regular intervals\u2014such as once a month\u2014reducing the impact of market volatility. You could manually apply <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.urbanitae.com\/en\/2023\/09\/03\/10-maximize-your-investments-with-dollar-cost-averaging\/?utm_source=blog_en&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=urbanitae_blog_0224&amp;utm_term=dollar+cost+averaging&amp;utm_content=learn_automation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dollar-cost averaging<\/a>\u2014also known as a constant investment plan. Still, it is more useful and, above all, more convenient to program this periodic investment so that you don&#8217;t have to be constantly monitoring and executing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Automatic portfolio rebalancing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.urbanitae.com\/en\/2023\/10\/01\/13-why-you-should-rebalance-your-investment-portfolio\/?utm_source=blog_en&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=urbanitae_blog_0224&amp;utm_term=rebalance+investment+portfolio&amp;utm_content=learn_automation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rebalancing the investment portfolio<\/a> is essential to ensure that its composition remains constant. Automation allows for the automatic adjustment of <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.urbanitae.com\/en\/2023\/09\/17\/12-asset-allocation-what-it-is-and-how-it-protects-your-investment\/?utm_source=blog_en&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=urbanitae_blog_0224&amp;utm_term=asset+allocation&amp;utm_content=learn_automation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">asset allocation<\/a> in the portfolio according to changes in market conditions and investor objectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Asset purchase based on conditions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Automatic rules can be established to buy or sell assets based on specific indicators, providing a quick response to changes in the market. For example, setting a rule to sell shares of X if their price surpasses or falls below a certain level. Most investors will be satisfied with the automatic portfolio rebalancing, as it will sell assets when they are expensive\u2014e.g., stocks\u2014and buy others\u2014e.g., bonds\u2014when their price falls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advantages of investment automation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Putting investments on autopilot has many benefits. We highlight three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More rational decisions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Automation eliminates <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.urbanitae.com\/en\/2024\/01\/21\/how-to-reduce-risk-in-your-investments\/?utm_source=blog_en&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=urbanitae_blog_0224&amp;utm_term=risk+investment&amp;utm_content=learn_automation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">impulsive emotional decisions<\/a>, ensuring that the investment strategy is followed in a disciplined and consistent manner. It is common for index funds to not only allow periodic contributions but also to regularly rebalance the portfolio. Otherwise, the recommendation would be to manually adjust every six or twelve months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For all these reasons, investment automation is <strong>not only the future but is already transforming how investors approach the market<\/strong>.
